Abuja Municipal Area Council was created on the 1st of October,1984 and consists of districts such as Lugbe, Nyanya, Giri, Karshi, Gausa, Deidei, Kugbo, Wasa, Apo, and Gurku. [1] The LGA covers an area of 1,476 km², with a population of 776,298 in 2006, projected to grow to 1,693,400in 2022, giving it a density of 1,147/km² [2]. Trade is an important economic activity in Abuja Municipal Area with the area hosting several markets such as the Kurudu and the Nyanya markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Abuja Municipal Area also hosts several banks, hotels, industries, restaurants, privately owned establishments, as well as government owned institutions which all contribute massively to the economy of the LGA. Notable landmarks in Abuja Municipal Area include the Karu Lorry Park and the Children’s Home, Karu. The Jiwa Emirate is also found within the Abuja Municipal Area.
