Zurmi L.G.A Of ZAMFARA State

Zurmi Local Government Area is located in Zamfara North Senatorial District, with its headquarters in the town of Zurmi. Zurmi LGA hosts the Zurmi Emirate and has a number of towns and villages such as Gurbin Bore, Kwashabawa, Birane, Mayasa, Tungar Fulani, Mashema, and Tubali. It spans an area of 2,512km² and had a population of 293,977 according to the 2006 census. Projections for 2022 estimate a population of 523,000, with a density of 208.2 people per km². Zurmi shares borders with the Niger Republic to the north and Katsina State to the east. Farming is an important economic activity in Zurmi LGA with a wide variety of commodities grown in the area. A number of domestic animals such as donkeys, camels, and rams are reared and sold in the LGA. Other important occupations of the people of Zurmi LGA include hunting, trade, and leather works.
