Talata Mafara Local Government Area is located in Zamfara North Senatorial District, with its headquarters in the town of Talata Mafara, approximately 15 km from the Bakolori Dam on the Sokoto River. The LGA constitutes a number of towns and villages which include Dankadon Daji, Morai, Guza, Ruwan Gizo, Yartasha, and Talata Mafara . It covers an area of 1,537 km² and had a population of 215,650 according to the 2006 census, with projections indicating a population of 383,700 by 2022, at a density of 249.6 people per km². The local government shares borders with Bakura to the west, Maradun to the east, Anka to the south, and Bakura to the north. Talata Mafara serves as the economic hub for Bakura and Maradun, both of which were carved out from it.
