Damaturu Local Government Area, headquartered in the city of Damaturu, serves as the capital of Yobe State and is part of the Yobe East Senatorial District. Created in 1991, it covers an area of 2,378 square kilometres and had a population of about 87,706 (2006 census), projected to be 137,900 in 2022, with a density of around 78 people per square kilometre. The economy is centred on administrative services, commerce, and some level of agriculture.
