Local Government Area (LGA), with headquarters in Lau Town, is part of Taraba
North Senatorial District. It was created in 1991 and covers 1,473 square kilometres,
housing 95,190 people in 2006 census, projected to over 149,700 in 2022, giving
it a density of 85 people per square kilometres.
Lau’s economy is based on agriculture and fishing, with yam and rice as major
crops. The River Benue enhances fishing and trade activities.
