Ibi Local Government Area (LGA),
headquartered in Ibi Town, is part of Taraba South Senatorial District.
Established in 1976, it covers 2,665 square kilometres. With a population of 84,302
in 2006, and projected to be 132,600 by 2022, yielding a density of 51 people
per square kilometres.
Ibi's economy revolves around fishing, agriculture, and river-based trade,
supported by its position on the Benue River. As cotton was one of the major
crops of the area, steam powered cotton gins were established in Ibi in the
early 1920s. Ibi Port is an essential landmark.
