Shagari L.G.A Of SOKOTO State

Shagari Local Government Area is located in Sokoto South Senatorial District, with its headquarters in the town of Shagari. The LGA borders Zamfara State to the south and comprises towns and villages such as Doruwa, Rugga, Bulanyaki, Lungu, Lambara, Gangam, Angur, and Shagari[1]. Shagari LGA covers an area of 1,371 km² and had a population of 156,907 in the 2006 census, which was projected to grow to 270,800 in 2022, resulting in a population density of 197.6 people per km² [2]. The area is notable for the rearing and trade of various domestic animals, including cows, goats, horses, and camels. Farming is also a significant occupation in the LGA, with crops such as sorghum, sugarcane, millet, and rice widely cultivated. Other economic activities in the area include hunting, pottery, and leatherworks[3]. A prominent landmark in Shagari LGA is the Shagari Earth Dam[4].
