Goronyo Local Government Area is located in Sokoto East Senatorial District, with its headquarters in the town of Goronyo on the Sokoto River[1]. The LGA includes various towns and villages such as Takakume, Yarimawa, Giyawa, Boyakai, Birjingo, Danasakko, Goronyo, and Shinaka[2]. Spanning an area of 2,013 km², Goronyo had a population of 182,118 according to the 2006 census, with a projection of 314,300 by 2022, giving it a population density of 156.2 people per km² [3]. The inhabitants of Goronyo are primarily of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups, with Hausa and Fufulde as the main languages. Agriculture is vital to the local economy, with crops like rice, onions, sugarcane, and millet widely cultivated. Goronyo is known for its large rice mill, which supports agricultural processing in the area. Animal husbandry is also common, including the rearing of donkeys, goats, and cows.
