Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Area (LGA), part of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, has its administrative headquarters is located in Urue-Offong. Covering an area of approximately 116.1 square kilometers, the LGA had a population of 70,740 in 2006, with projections increasing to 90,300 by 2022, giving a population density of 778 people per square kilometer .Urue-Offong/Oruko is endowed with significant mineral resources, including crude oil, clay, fine stone, and gravel, with mining activities forming a major part of its economic base. The LGA is also renowned for its rich seafood, supporting fishing as a vital livelihood for its inhabitants. Additional economic activities include wood carving, farming, trading, and crafts making .Traditionally, the people of Urue-Offong/Oruko are known as fishermen, traders, and farmers. The area is not only agriculturally productive, yielding palm oil and various crops, but also ranks among the richest in crude oil deposits in the Oro region.
