Akoko South-West with headquarters in Oke-Oka[1], is a vibrant LGA within the Ondo North Senatorial District. It occupies an area of 261 square kilometers.[2] and had a population of 228,383 in 2006, projected to increase to 350,800 by 2022[3]. This results in a high population density of 1,344.4 people per square kilometer.
The LGA is an agricultural hub, with cocoa, kola nut, and palm oil being the dominant crops.[4]. In addition to farming, Akoko South-West is a center for educational excellence, hosting Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba-Akoko.[5].
Culturally, the LGA is renowned for its traditional celebrations, such as the Egungun Festival, which showcases Yoruba heritage through colorful masquerades and traditional drumming. The lush environment and unique hilly landscapes make the area an appealing destination for eco-tourism.
