Akoko North-West, headquartered in Okeagbe-Akoko[1], is a pivotal area within the Ondo North Senatorial District. Created in 1976, it covers an expansive area of 511.9 square kilometers. The 2006 population of 213,792 is projected to have grown to 325,500 by 2022, resulting in a population density of 635.8 people per square kilometer.[2]
The economy is heavily reliant on farming and trade, with cocoa and yam.[3] Being the primary crops. The LGA also has deposits of mineral resources, including granite, which support quarrying activities. Akoko North-West is recognized for producing prominent figures such as Adetokunbo Kayode (former Minister of Defense), Temitope Balogun Joshua (founder of SCOAN), and Chief J. O. Sanusi (former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria)[4].
The area is rich in culture, with traditional festivals and rites such as Oro and Egungun playing a vital role in community life. The geographical terrain is a blend of rolling hills and fertile valleys, making it suitable for diverse agricultural activities.
