Nsit Ibom Local Government Area (LGA) is situated within the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, with its administrative headquarters in Afaha Offiong . The LGA was established in September 1991 following its separation from Nsit Ubium, resulting in the creation of Nsit Ibom as a distinct entity. It occupies a land area of approximately 144.6 square kilometres. With a population of 108,095 recorded in 2006 and a projection of 137,900 by 2022, Nsit Ibom has an estimated population density of 953.5 people per square kilometer. Agriculture plays a central role in the economy, with the cultivation of crops like oil palm, cassava, yam, and cocoyam being widespread. The LGA is also a notable center for fishing, supported by its rich rivers and streams. Additionally, trade and craftsmanship, including the production of canoes and fishing nets, contribute significantly to the local economy Nsit Ibom is home to prominent educational institutions, including the Akwa Ibom State College of Education in Afaha Nsit, Maurid Polytechnic in Mbiaso, and Nice Polytechnic in Afaha Offiong, further establishing the LGA as a hub for higher learning .The LGA is located at coordinates 4°53′0″N and 7°54′0″E.
