Mkpat Enin LGA, Akwa Ibom State

Mkpat Enin Local Government Area (LGA), located in Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, has its administrative center in Mkpat Enin town. Covering an area of approximately 397.2 square kilometers, the LGA had a population of 177,293 in 2006, projected to reach 226,200 by 2022. This gives it an estimated population density of about 569.5 people per square kilometer. Known for its abundant natural resources, Mkpat Enin boasts reserves of crude oil, natural gas, limestone, magnesium, and gypsum, which drive significant economic activity. Additionally, the LGA is a hub for agriculture, producing crops like plantain, cassava, coconut, and vegetables. Fishing also flourishes in the area's waterways, further supporting the local economy. A key landmark in the region is the main campus of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) in Ikot Akpaden, which enhances the LGA’s reputation as a center for education in the state. Mkpat Enin is also notable for its forest reserves, contributing timber and palm produce to the economy. The LGA is situated at approximately 4°44′1″N latitude and 7°44′55″E longitude.
