Mbo Local Government Area, located in Akwa Ibom South senatorial district, was established in 1989 after being carved out of the former Oron Division. With Enwang as its administrative headquarters, Mbo covers 318.1 km² and had a projected population of 130,400 in 2022, reflecting a density of 409.9 people per km², up from 102,173 recorded in 2006. The LGA is a vital hub for fishing, leveraging its numerous rivers and tributaries rich in seafood. Fertile soils support agricultural activities, including the cultivation of cassava, plantain, vegetables, and fruits. Residents also engage in crafts, trade, and the construction of fishing nets and canoes .Mbo boasts valuable natural resources, including crude oil (both onshore and offshore), clay, salt, fine sand, gravel, and timber, contributing significantly to its economy.
