Surulere L.G.A Of LAGOS State

Surulere Local Government Area is located in Lagos State, Nigeria, with its administrative headquarters in Surulere town. It is part of the Lagos Central Senatorial District and was created in 1991 when it was carved out of the old Lagos Mainland Local Government.

The population of Surulere was 502,865 in 2006, projected to grow to 744,400 by 2022. It spans 20.01 square kilometres, resulting in a population density of 37,196 people per square kilometre[1]. The LGA's geographical coordinates are 6°30′0″N 3°21′0″E.

Surulere is renowned for its rich cultural and sporting history. It hosted the FESTAC '77, the Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture, in 1977. The Lagos National Stadium, built in 1972 for the 1973 All-Africa Games, and the Teslim Balogun Stadium are iconic sports venues in the area. Surulere's Ojuelegba is a famous hub for transport and commerce, immortalized in Nigerian musician Wizkid's song of the same name[2].

The area thrives with industrial activity at Iponri, Coker, and Iganmu, while its main commercial streets include Western Avenue and Adeniran Ogunsanya. The postal code for Surulere is 101283[3].
