Ikot Abasi Local Government Area is located in the Akwa Ibom South senatorial district and holds a significant place in Nigeria’s history. Situated at coordinates 4°38′0″N 7°39′0″E, it was the site of the 1929 women’s uprising against British colonial authorities, a landmark event that highlighted the resilience of local women .The LGA has a rich cultural and economic heritage. Its population grew from 132,608 in 2006 to an estimated 169,200 in 2022. With a land area of 280.8 km², the population density is 602.6 people per km². The postal code for the area is 534.Economically, Ikot Abasi serves as a center for agriculture and trade, with local produce including yams, cassava, fish, palm products, maize, and taro. The area is also notable for boatbuilding, although the port’s access to the Gulf of Guinea is partially hindered by a sandbar. Today, it remains a vibrant community, well-connected to Aba and Port Harcourt by road, continuing its role as a hub for regional trade and culture.
