Apapa L.G.A Of LAGOS State

Apapa Local Government Area, with its headquarters in Apapa, is part of the Lagos Central Senatorial District. It was established in October 1996 during the administration of General Sani Abacha, following its separation from the former Eti-Osa Local Government. The creation of the LGA was driven by the need for more focused grassroots governance and administration.

Covering an area of 40.40 square kilometres, Apapa had a population of 222,986 in the 2006 census, which grew to an estimated 330,100 in 2022. This gives it a population density of approximately 8,172 people per square kilometre[1].

Apapa is a critical component of Lagos State’s economy and Nigeria's economic infrastructure. It hosts several ports and terminals operated by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), including the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) and the Tin Can Island Port. These facilities handle over 50% of Nigeria's port revenue, making Apapa a vital gateway for trade and commerce. The area also contributes significantly to Lagos' standing as a leading non-oil contributor to Nigeria’s GDP[2].

The economy of Apapa revolves around maritime activities, logistics, and warehousing. Its strategic location has attracted numerous multinational companies, banks, and businesses.

Apapa is located at coordinates 6.4543° N latitude and 3.3595° E longitude. Its importance to Nigeria’s economy and Lagos State’s industrial landscape makes it a hub for commerce and maritime operations, cementing its position as a key driver of economic activities in the region. The postal code of the area is 101[3].
