Agege L.G.A Of LAGOS State

Agege Local Government Area (LGA) is located in the Ikeja Division of Lagos State, Nigeria[1]. It was re-established as a distinct LGA during the rationalization of local governments in May 1989[2], alongside Ikeja, Shomolu, and Mushin LGAs. Historically, Agege served as the capital of Ikeja Division until 1927, highlighting its administrative importance in Lagos State[3]. Agege is part of the Lagos West Senatorial District

Covering an area of 12.25 square kilometres, Agege LGA had a population of 461,743 according to the 2006 census, with a projected population of 683,600 in 2022, resulting in a high population density of 55,805 people per square kilometre[4].

The LGA is a bustling hub of economic activities, with markets such as the Abattoir meat market and Alade market serving as economic lifelines for the area. These markets not only cater to diverse consumer needs but also significantly boost the local economy.

Agege is notable for its educational and youth development institutions. It hosts a campus of Lagos State University and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, located on Iyana-Ipaja Road. It also has the Agege stadium which can be used for recreational and sporting activities.
