Ikono Local Government Area, with headquarters in Urua Inyang, is located within the South South region of Nigeria. Established in September 1996 after being carved out of Itu LGA, Ikono is one of the largest LGAs in Akwa Ibom State . The area is positioned at coordinates 5°12′37″N 7°47′38″E. It is in the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district. As of 2006, Ikono had a population of 131,673, which was projected to reach 168,000 by 2022.
