Baruten Local Government Area (LGA) lies in Kwara North Senatorial District with its headquarters in Kosubosu. Bordering the Republic of Benin, Baruten LGA spans towns and villages such as Gwanara, Yawoji, Zume Buran, Kemanji, Moshe, Sumaji, Tori Gandu, Tungan Sabi, and Ilesha[1]. It stretches from Ilesha Baruba to the border town of Chikanda. The LGA covers an area of 7,956 km² with a 2006 population of 206,679, projected to rise to 310,300 by 2022, yielding a density of 39.00/km² [2]. Agriculture is the backbone of Baruten’s economy, with significant production of yam and cashew, supported by extensive cashew plantations[3]. The area is also notable for Agro-processing mills, particularly for yam flour production. Trade thrives in the LGA, with notable markets like the Sunday Market in Ingurumi, which hosts vibrant commercial activities[4]. It is known for two major festivals, Gani and Dokoru[5].
