Yagba West Local Government Area (LGA) lies in Kogi West Senatorial District with its headquarters in the town of Odo-Ere. Bordering the west of the state adjoining Kwara State[1], Yagba West LGA spans towns and villages such as Odosin, Egbe, Okunran, Iyemerin, Iddo, Okoloke, Igbaraku, Ejiba, Ogbe, and Akaka[2]. The LGA covers an area of 1,274 km² with a 2006 population of 139,928, projected to rise to 188,600 by 2022, yielding a density of 148.1/km² [3]. The LGA is predominantly occupied by members of the Okun ethnic sub-division of the Yoruba tribe. The Okun dialect of the Yoruba language is primarily spoken in the LGA.
