Omala is a Local Government Area in Kogi State bounded in the north by the Benue River. With its headquarters in the town of Abejukolo in the north of the area and is part of the Kogi East Senatorial District.[1] The LGA comprises prominent districts and towns such as Ogodu, Abejukolo, Ife, Ogugudu, Oti, Oliya, Ijali, and Akpacha.[2]. Covering an area of 1,667 km², it had a population of 107,968 in 2006, projected to rise to 145,500by 2022, with a density of 87.27/km² [3]. The northeasterly line of equal latitude and longitude passes through the southeast of the LGA. Most locals are predominantly Igala speaking people with a few being Bassa and Agatu from Benue State.[4] A number of mineral deposits are found in Omala LGA and these include clay and granite. Farming thrives in the LGA with the area having fertile lands on which a number of crops such as yam, cassava, and maize are cultivated.
