Okene L.G.A Of KOGI State

Okene local government area was created in 1976, it is part of the Kogi Central Senatorial District, with its headquarters in the town of Okene. The LGA comprises several towns and villages such as Okene, Okengwe, Bariki, Idoji, Otutu, Abuga, Odenku, and Obessa.[1] Covering an area of 326.5km², it had a population of 325,623 in 2006, projected to rise to 438,900by 2022, with a density of 1,344/km².[2] Majority of the area’s populace constitutes members of the Ebira ethnic group. The Ebira language is commonly spoken in the LGA.Key notable landmarks in the area include the Federal College of Education and the Kogi state Polytechnic satellite campus.
