Gwandu Local Government Area (LGA) is situated in Birnin Kebbi and constitutes one of the four emirates comprising Kebbi State. Established in the 16th century by the Kabbawa people, Gwandu rose to prominence during the Fulani jihad, serving as the capital of the Fulani empire from 1815 until the British colonization in 1903. The LGA's population was recorded at 151,077 in the 2006 census, with projections for 2022 estimating a population of 258,100.
