Katsina, the capital of Katsina State in northern Nigeria with the headquarters in Katsina city, is a Local Government Area located approximately 260 kilometers east of Sokoto and 135 kilometers northwest of Kano. It is situated near the border of the Niger Republic.The population of Katsina was recorded as 318,132 in the 2006 census, with latest estimates for 2022 indicating a significant increase to 568,600. The area of Katsina Local Government Area spans 133.8 square kilometers, resulting in a population density of 4,249 inhabitants per square kilometer as of 2022.Katsina's history is embodied in its Royal Palace, Gidan Korau. Built in 1348 CE by Muhammadu Korau, the first Muslim King of Katsina, this palace is a testament to the city's rich culture and traditions. It stands as one of the oldest palaces in the region, alongside those in Daura, Kano, and Zazzau.Katsina functions as a prominent economic hub, specializing in the manufacturing of steel, textiles, and agricultural products. The city also boasts a robust educational landscape, encompassing several institutions of higher learning. These include two universities, Umaru Musa Yar'adua University and the privately-owned Alqalam University, in addition to Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic and a Federal College of Education.
