Nsit Atai L.G.A Of AKWA IBOM State

Nsit Atai Local Government Area (LGA), located in Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, has its headquarters in Odot Afaha. Established in 1996 during the administration of Gen. Sani Abacha, the LGA spans an area of approximately 149.3 square kilometers. With a population of 73,395 recorded in 2006 and projected to rise to 93,700 by 2022, Nsit Atai has an estimated population density of 627.7 people per square kilometers. Rich in natural resources, the LGA is endowed with clay, salt, and crude oil, making it a significant contributor to the region’s economy through mineral extraction. Agriculture is another key livelihood in Nsit Atai, with crops like plantain and oil palm prominently cultivated. Fishing, trading, and artisanal crafts further diversify the local economy.
