Eastern Obolo L.G.A Of AKWA IBOM State

Eastern Obolo Local Government Area is located in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, with its headquarters in Okoroete. This coastal LGA lies between latitudes 4°28′ and 4°53′N and longitudes 7°50′ and 7°55′E, under the tidal influence of the Bight of Bonny. It was carved out of Ikot Abasi LGA on December 4, 1996. The 2006 population of 59,970 is projected to have reached 76,500 by 2022, with a land area of 156.5 square kilometres and a resulting population density of 488.7 people per square kilometre .Eastern Obolo is rich in agricultural and natural resources, including crude oil, natural gas, and seafood. Its mineral wealth supports onshore and offshore oil activities at locations like Elek-Okpoon̄, Iko, and Otunene. Major crops include coconut, kola nut, and rubber, with a coconut oil processing plant in the area. The region also hosts mangrove forests and trees such as iroko and raffia. Fishing is a key economic activity due to its numerous rivers and tributaries, and the area also supports livestock farming and the cultivation of cassava, maize, and vegetables.
