Ajingi L.G.A Of KANO State

Ajingi Local Government Area (LGA) is located in the southern part of Kano State, Nigeria, within the Kano South Senatorial District. The administrative headquarters is in the town of Ajingi. Established in 1996, Ajingi LGA covers an area of approximately 714 square kilometers.According to the 2006 census, Ajingi had a population of 174,137. By 2022, estimates suggest the population has grown to around 283,900, indicating significant growth over the years.The economy of Ajingi LGA is predominantly agricultural, with residents engaged in farming activities such as the cultivation of grains and vegetables. The area is also known for pottery making, a traditional craft that contributes to the local economy. Commerce plays a vital role, with markets like the Larabar Zango market, one of the largest in rural Kano State, serving as a hub for trade and economic activities.Educationally, Ajingi LGA hosts several primary and secondary schools that cater to the educational needs of its residents. The first primary school was established in 1958 in Toranke, followed by another in Ajingi town three years later. Geographically, it is situated at approximately 11.9683° N latitude and 9.0368° E longitude.An interesting aspect of Ajingi is its cultural heritage. Originally settled by Kanuri people from present-day Machina in Yobe State, the area is now predominantly inhabited by the Fulani ethnic group, with Gulya remaining a significant base for the Kanuri. The LGA comprises twenty village heads (Dagatai) under the district head, reflecting its traditional political structure.
