Numan LGA, with its headquarters in Numan Town, is part of the Adamawa South Senatorial District. Established in 1976, it spans an area of 803.9 square kilometres. The population in 2006 was 91,549, projected to be 141,200 in 2022, giving a density of 79 people per square kilometre.

The economy of Numan is supported by agriculture and sugarcane processing, with the Numan Sugar Company being a significant contributor. Farming is also a major economic activity. Crops including peanuts, cowpea, sorghum, and millet are produced. In the LGA, a variety of animals, including cows, donkeys, and goats, are raised and sold. The area is also culturally significant as the traditional seat of the Bachama people and it has hosts the Adamawa State Polytechnic, Numan.
