Owerri Urban Local Government Area also known as Owerri Municipal is the capital LGA of Imo State, with the headquarters in the city of Owerri. It is one of the twenty-seven LGAs found in Imo state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It is amongst the local governments that make up the Imo East senatorial zone. The population recorded in the 2006 census was 125,337, and it is projected to reach 174,200 by 2022. The area spans 62.40 km². As the state capital, Owerri Urban has a vibrant economy with a focus on trade, services, and agriculture, particularly cassava and yam farming.
