Obowo L.G.A Of IMO State

Obowo local government area in Imo state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria was created May 1989 and has its headquarters in the town of Otoko. It is amongst the local governments that make up Imo North  senatorial zone. Obowo LGA covers an area of  98.12 km²  and had a population of 117,432 according to the 2006 census, with projections to be 163,200 by 2022. Obowo Local Government Area is home to various cultural festivals, including the Iwa Akwa Festival, Ekpo, Mbomuzo, and Egbe-Nkwu. The region also boasts several tourist attractions, such as the Green-Coloured Abadaba Lake in Odenkwume Autonomous Community, Iyi-Ukwu, and the Umuariam Game Reserve Center, which features live monkeys. The economy of Obowo has evolved from a focus on farming and fishing to include various industrial services such as manufacturing and communications. The people of Obowo are known for producing large quantities of palm oil, palm kernels, local baskets, brooms, and rice.
