Arochukwu Local Government Area located in southeastern Nigeria is the third biggest Local government area in Abia state. It is the homeland of the Igbo subgroup the Aro people and is ruled by the Eze Aro. It has its headquarters at Arochukwu-Etim Ito-Itu Road, Abia state and came officially to be on May 6th, 1989. It is amongst the local governments that make up Abia North senatorial zone. With a population of about 169,339 (2006 census), it covers an area of 420.4 km² and population is projected to be 246,600 in 2022. The LGAs economy thrives on agriculture and has a vibrant commercial sector. Notable institution include Abia State College of Education (Technical). Arochukwu is a blend of Igbo, Ibibio, and Akpa cultures. Igbo is the primary language spoken in Arochukwu, with Ibibio also commonly used.
