The Ijero Local Government Area was created in 1976[1]. It is located in the northwestern part of Ekiti State, within the Ekiti Central Senatorial District. The headquarters of the LGA is in Ijero-Ekiti. The area covers a total land size of 361.9 square kilometres. In 2006, the population was 221,873, and projections for 2022 estimate around 332,200 people. This gives Ijero an approximate population density of 917.9 people per square kilometre. The local economy is heavily agricultural, with the people of Ijero primarily producing food crops such as yam, cocoyam, cassava, pepper, tomatoes, and bananas[2].
