Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area was established in 1976[1]. The LGA covers an area of 290.6 square kilometres and had a population of 165,087 in 2006, projected to grow to 247,200 by 2022, resulting in a population density of around 850.6 people per square kilometre[2]. The headquarters of Ekiti Southwest is Ilawe Ekiti[3].

Agriculture is central to the economy of Ekiti Southwest, with residents primarily engaged in farming cash and food crops such as cocoa, kola nut, oil palm, citrus, cereals, and various tubers like yam and cassava. Additionally, locals participate in petty trading, lumbering, pottery, mat weaving, and other crafts[4].
