Gbonyin Local Government Area (officially Aiyekire in Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution) was established on October 1, 1996, with its headquarters at Ode Ekiti[1]. Created from Ekiti East Local Government, Gbonyin is one of sixteen LGAs in Ekiti State, with High Chief Zacheaus Adebowale Ofi as its first chairman. It is a local government within the Ekiti South Senatorial District of Ekiti State, Nigeria.
The LGA spans 459 square kilometres and had a population of 147,999 in the 2006 census, which grew to an estimated 221,600 by 2022. This increase brings the current population density to approximately 482.8 people per square kilometre.[2]
