Ohakwu Local Government Area, established in 1989 from the former Ishielu LGA, is located in Ebonyi North Senatorial District with its headquarters in Ezzamgbo[1]. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Ammofia Mgbo, Ezzamgbo, Umugudu, Umuogudu oshia, Okposi Eheku, Effium, Ekwashi Mgbo, and Okposi mgbo[2] and is primarily inhabited by the Izhia, Ngbo, and Effium communities[3]. Known as the location of the permanent site of Ebonyi State University (founded in 1999), Ohaukwu covers 707.8 km², with a 2006 population of 195,555, projected to reach 291,300 by 2022, and a density of 411.6 people per km²[4]. Agriculture is central to the economy, with commercial production of yam, cassava, maize, palm oil, and palm kernels. Ohaukwu also has extensive mineral deposits, including laterite, kaolin clay, gypsum, and limestone, with laterite wells at Umuagara–Izhia, Amaechi, Ukwagba, and Amofia managed by foreign companies paying royalties to the government[5]. A number of colourful festivals such as the Itukwe and Iphori Ndiegu festivals are held in Ohaukwu LGA[6]. The area’s postal code is 481[7], and it is located at 6.5329° N, 8.023° E
