Biase Local Government Area was created out of Akamkpa Local Government in 1981 under the Cross River South Senatorial District and has headquarters in Akpet Central. It had a population of 186,611 in  2006 and is projected to be 284,200  in 2022. Biase has a population density 100 people per kilometer square and sits on an area of 2834 kilometer square  .The people of Biase are popularly known for their craftsmanship especially in weaving and pottery however, fishing and farming are common economic activities in Biase.
