Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State was created in August  with its headquarters in Ikot Nakanda town. It had a population of 272,262 people in 2006 and is projected to reach 414,700 2022 . It has a population density of  approximately 275 people per kilometer square and sits on an area of 871.9km2.  Citizens of Akpabuyo Local Government area are predominantly farmers and fishermen .
